It’s called slow decorating.
The idea is this: while it’s easy to feel pressure to “finish” a room quickly, the most authentic homes don’t come together all at once. They evolve. They’re shaped by the small, meaningful things we choose to add over time. And they’re deeply personal.
Embroidery fits into this beautifully.
When you stitch a piece for your home, you’re creating something no one else has—something with your hands, your time, your intention. And when it hangs in your entryway, kitchen, or living room, it says something that store-bought signs never can.
It says: This space is mine. This space is loved.
If you want to stitch that feeling into your walls, here are a few home-centered designs to consider—ones I’ve created with this very idea in mind.
This is the design I’d start with if you’re going to embrace the “slow-decorating” practice and incorporate embroidery.
Home Sampler is inspired by traditional band samplers, the kind that once taught generations of stitchers how to embroider—and gave them a way to showcase it in their homes. My version updates that format with modern color, folk-art motifs, and themes of comfort and belonging.
There are rows of houses and folk art flowers, stitch-packed borders, and a home-centered saying.
Whether it hangs above a key rack or beside a favorite reading chair, it gives off a clear message: home matters here.
Sometimes the smallest pieces make the biggest statement. That’s how I think about these Stick & Stitch designs—especially when they’re stitched in custom colors and framed in tiny hoops or added to tea towels/totebags/pillowcases—you tell me your favorite linen to stitch on!
There are eight house styles in the Houses Pattern Set . . .
. . . and you can use the Home Sayings Set to add one of eleven sayings underneath—like “Home is where our story begins,” “Home is made of love & stories,” or “Home is my happy place.” The result is a piece that’s charming and compact, and entirely your own.
These are wonderful little projects if you want to ease into decorating with embroidery. They work beautifully in gallery walls, bookshelves, or as gifts for someone building their own home.
This round design places a small house at the heart of the piece—and then lets the scene expand outward.
Behind the house is a little cityscape. Beyond that: a forest. It’s meant to evoke the idea of finding your place in the world and holding it close, no matter what’s beyond the windows.
I often hear from customers who gift this design to someone moving into a new home. But of course, it’s just as fitting to keep for yourself. Stitch No Place Like Home →
Nothing says home like a favorite chair, a quilt, and a napping cat. This sampler pairs a cozy patchwork background with a peacefully sleeping kitty—an inviting stitch that captures the warmth of home life.
This one feels quieter than the rest—and I mean that in the best way.
Rainy Day shows a mudroom scene. There are rain boots and umbrellas leaning against the wall, a sleeping dog curled up nearby, and rain falling outside the door.
I designed it as a nod to those simple, everyday moments that somehow make us feel most at home. It’s not a grand room. It’s a useful one. And it’s a space where comfort settles in, even when the weather turns.

There’s a particular kind of comfort that comes from a well-loved living room. Patterns layered on patterns. A deep chair. A side table with a lamp and a cup of tea.
That’s the feeling I wanted to capture in this design—a warm interior full of stitched textures, little details, and things you don’t notice all at once. The kind of piece that invites you to look again.
It works beautifully as a stitched representation of your favorite space, and it’s especially fun if you enjoy stitching colorful surfaces. I think of it as a love letter to staying in. Take a closer look →
