Before you reach for the faux pumpkins and cinnamon candles… what if your fall decorating started with a needle and thread?
Fall decorating is about creating a sense of warmth and of incorporating must-touch texture…
…and that’s where embroidery becomes an essential decor element.
At Stitched Stories, I design kits that can become your decor. You make pieces that look great on the wall (or plate stand)–and that gave you creative satisfaction with each stitch.
Here are 3 tips for your fall decorating that invite the addition of hand embroidery to your home.
Fall decorating isn’t only about orange and rust–it’s about how things feel. Fiber art (like embroidery) adds softness and hand-stitched contrast to smooth ceramics, wood, and metal.
Vintage Truck is a design for early fall with its harvest gold hills embroidered in three different and textured stitches: French knots, chain and back. See it displayed here with contrasting textures of a metal sign and wooden pumpkin.
Spooky House has lots of dense satin stitching on windows and moon along with fly-stitched scallops on the eaves of the house. The ghosts are barely there in a pale back stitch. See it displayed here with a ceramic owl, pressed-glass jar, and black botanicals.
Designers love grouping objects that share a mood. Mix a stitched woodland scene with a tiny pumpkin, and a vintage book for a cozy little moment — OR — get witchy with your designs as we’ve done here.
Potions Pantry and Moths are shown in a vignette with botttles and beeswax candlesticks, a rustic pedestal and fern-filled candle.
Harvest Table mixes nicely with a turkey figurine and botanicals. I love using this scrolled plate stand to display my in-the-hoop projects in a vignette.
Fall is when homes start to close in and get cozier. Mix stitched pieces into gallery walls or layer them on standing picture frames for a more collected, heirloom look.
Our band samplers are perfect for decorating in this way. Here’s Fall Squirrel Sampler layered with a paneless window frame and beads.
And here’s another look for Fall Squirrel Sampler. This time it’s in a more modern frame and layered with two in-the-hoop designs (Mushrooms and Harvest Table) along with one of our Stick-and-Stich Squirrels. SoooOooo many wonderful layers.
